Q: Who was St. Columba?

A: He was an Irish saint who sailed from Ireland to Scotland where he travelled widely, converting the Scots to Christianity. He eventually established a monastery on the remote Scottish Island of Iona from where his monks engaged in their mission to preach and teach the Gospel. Click here to read more.

Q: How Scottish is the Scottish Church?

A: Despite its name, St. Columba’s Church of Scotland is very much an international church. The only continent from which we currently haven’t got any regular visitors is Antarctica. So wherever you are from, you are most welcome!
The church was founded by Scots and is part of the Church of Scotland.
Several Scottish cultural events, such as ceilidhs (informal evenings of music and Scottish country dancing) and a Burns Supper, take place in our building. If you are longing for kilts and bagpipes, this is where you’re most likely to see them! See also Occasional Opportunities and Mailing lists.
